Unfortunately I had rehearsals and missed
the Skype session, which sent me into a panic.
Surely if I miss it I will fall behind? However during the BAPP arts
course we use web 2.0 for communication, so even though I wasn’t physically in
the conversation on Skype I am able to read every ones accounts of the Skype
session and still discuss my thoughts. First of all I read Adesolas blog as
this gave me an outline of what was discussed and she mentioned what thoughts
people had put forward.
They talked about how module one asks you
to re think and re feel the assumptions you have about yourself and what you do
as a way to better position and recognize what your own practice is.
Modesty v showing off
Modesty
v generosity
Criticism
v reflection
I read through the thoughts of the other
students doing module one and what they’d posted as their blog about the
session.
I was drawn to the idea of module one
having three main lens, COMMUNICATION,
REFLECTION and NETWORKING. Matthew D had discussed his thoughts
during the Skype session so I read through his blog and his thoughts from the
session and how he relates the three main lens to himself and his practice.
I related them to my practice and I to have
already been using the 3 lens for instance communication. My current employer I
have communicated with them for along time when I originally auditioned for
them I had to dance and show them I was able to do there choreography the way
they wanted but put my own performance into it, I also handed them a CV and
headshot which tells them where I trained, what jobs I’d done previous and my
skills. It doesn’t stop at getting the job, I go into rehearsals and have to
present myself in a way that shows I’m reliable and work well in the team. I
also communicate with the general public on a daily basis. Presenting myself as
a professional.
Reflection I now realize I do this all the time;
I reflect on every show I do only to make my performance better the next time. Which has helped me grow as a dancer and a
performer. From my first contract to where I am now, I have grown through
reflection without even realizing. At the end of this contract I’m going to be
transitioning into a career change, so being able to reflect and grow during
this process is very important.
Networking is what I’m doing right now by
writing this blog. I’m still not comfortable putting all my thoughts out there
for everybody to see. I’m constantly reading other blogs and taking notes and
I’m learning there is no wrong or right but there is still that feeling of
feeling vulnerable.
